Why is physical activity our focus?
Physical activity is one of the most effective tools for protecting mental health and preventing mental illness.
Research consistently shows it reduces symptoms of depression and anxiety, while also lowering the risk of chronic diseases.
Globally, 31% of adults and 80% of adolescents fail to meet recommended activity levels—doubling their risk of both physical illness and mental health conditions. In Australia, around 78% of adults aged 18–64 years are insufficiently active.
Importantly, many studies have found that physical activity can be as effective—and in some cases more effective—than conventional treatments such as therapy or medication for mild to moderate depression and anxiety.
At Sana Days, we aim to change these statistics by promoting physical activity as a proven preventative strategy for mental illness. Through community programs, events, challenges, and awareness, we empower people to build healthier routines, improve resilience, and strengthen both body and mind.
